| Horace J. "Curly" Williams Sr. | Jacksonville, FL newspaper | |
On August 25, 2009 Horace J.
“Curly” Williams, Sr. went home to be with his lord and savior Jesus
Christ. Curly was born October 29, 1921. In his early years, Curly was a
proud member of the Civilian Conservation Corp or CCC. During the
depression and before World War II this group helped the natural
resource conservation program on national, state and municipal lands in
every U.S. State. Curly shared many of his fond memories of the CCC's
with his family and friends and was very proud of his service during
this time. After his service with the CCC's he met his wife, Inez Parker
and they were married in 1945. He worked tirelessly for the CSX Railroad
in Jacksonville, FL for 43 years and was a devoted father to three
children; grandfather to 7 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 11
great-grandchildren. The only thing Curly loved more than his family was
the Lord. He was an ordained Bishop with the Church of God, pastoring
for 20 years. He loved to spread the word of God to everyone he met.
This was his true calling in life. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to
travel and take adventures with his wife and grandchildren. Curly loved
fishing and hunting and would jump at the chance to go whenever
possible. He also enjoyed meeting people wherever he went and sharing
his life stories. Curly's memberships included CCC Regional Director,
UTU-Retired Railroad Union and Sons of the Confederacy. He will be
missed greatly by his family and everyone who knew him. Curly Williams
is survived by his wife Inez Williams; son, H. “Jack” Williams, Jr.
(Sandy); daughters, Renee' Walston (Woody) and Kathleen Williams;
grandchildren, Douglas Woodall, Jr. (Debbie), Derek Williams (Grazia),
Craig Woodall (Gloria), Jennifer Graham (Duncan), Melissa Lewis, Crissy
Kennedy and Wendy Walston; great-grandchildren, Alysa, Sarah, Brianna,
Lauren, Katherine, Madison, Ameisha, Paul, Ebony, Isabella and Emma;
brothers, Sidney Williams (Bunny), Brian Williams (Clara) and Harold
Williams (Virginia); and sisters, Doris Stormant (E.V.) and Elizabeth
Stromant (Willie) Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 27 at
Hardage- Giddens Funeral Home, Edgewood Chapel. Funeral service will be
11:00 a.m., Friday, August 28 at Lane Avenue Church of God, 2956 Lane
Ave N, with Dr. Charles Linton and Reverend Steve Dubose officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials
