John Edward Johnson, One Time Resident, Dies At Bridger

John Edward Johnson, 74, father of Mrs. Ruby Hughes of Sand Springs, died Sunday afternoon, April 29, at his home near Bridger, Montana.  He died as a result of a heart attack.

Johnson was born in Stockholm, Sweden, June 14, 1876.  He came to Nebraska when a small boy and in 1889 went to Minnesota, later going back to Nebraska where he met and married Mintie Alice Waltermire on Dec. 1, 1906.

Mr. Johnson moved from Nebraska in 1913 to Dilo, Montana, where he took a homestead and lived until 1937.  He then moved to Bridger where he lived until his death.

Mrs. Johnson survives him.  Other survivors, besides Mrs. Hughes, are Joe Johnson of Bridger, Wayne of Colstrip, and Ivor of Billings.

Funeral servies were conducted at the Methodist church in Bridger by a Red Lodge minister.  Burial was at the Rockvale cemetery.  Pallbearers were Matt and Mike Rukavina, Chris Peters, Ray Teeples and Paul and George Delmondeo.  (Source: Jack McRae jmcrae@midrivers.com)

 

Bridger Man's Services Planned

Red Lodge, May 1. -- Funeral services for John Edward Johnson, 74, who died at his home near Bridger, will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church in Bridger.

Mr. Johnson was born June 14, 1876, in Stockholm, Sweden, and came to Minnesota in 1889.  He homesteaded in Garfield county, Mont., in 1913 and moved to Bridger in 1937.

On Dec. 1, 1906, he married Miss Alice Wattermire (sp. Waltermire) in Lexington, Neb.  She survives him.

Other survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Hughes of Sand Springs and three sons, Joe E. Johnson of Bridger, Wayne of Colstrip and Ivar L. Johnson of Billings.  (Apr 29 1951)
