James A. Staggs Passes Away, After Long Illness
Mr James A Staggs, a life long resident of Izard County, and well known
in this section of the state, died at his home here shortly after noon,
Friday, May 3, 1929. His death was not unexpected as he had been confined to
his bed for several months with a bad kidney ailment, which drew steadily on
his vitality for the past year or more.
Mr Staggs would have been 67 years of age next July 7th. He was born in
this part of the county and remained in this vicinity until he was nearly
grown. About forty-one years ago he was married to Miss Harriett Woods of
this county and soon following their marriage they move to Melbourne, where
he was engaged at farming and stock dealing for many years, though in later
years he engaged in buying and selling cattle exclusively and was quite
successful in this line. He followed this business continuously until about
two years ago, when he retired from activity on account of his health. He
moved from Melbourne to Calico Rock about nine years ago.
In the prime of his years Mr Staggs carried on his work and business
with a marked degree of aggressiveness, his energies extending his business
all over this and into adjoining counties, where he formed acquaintances
that made for life-long friends. The news of his passing will be received
with deep regret by scores of friends and acquaintances.
Deceased is survived by his widow; one son, Charles of near here; two
daughters, Miss Ruedeane of this place and Mrs Hallie Arrighi of Fordland,
Mo.; two brothers, David of Cross Roads and Felix of Seracy, Ark.; two
sisters, Mrs Joe Estes of Cross Roads and Mrs Brown of Oklahoma.
Burial took place at the Melbourne Cemetery Saturday, funeral services
being conducted by Rev. H. L. Jones, assisted by Elder David A. Hively.
