ROBERT DANIEL REWIS (1809-1856) moved from Georgia to Columbia County, Florida. His parents were John Rewis Senior and Mary Rewis. He was born in Tattnal, Georgia. He married Bethany Anderson on Jan. 1, 1829, and they lived in Ware County, Georgia, before moving to Columbia County, Florida, about 1856. He and his first son Obadiah were mustered into service to fight in the second Seminole War on June 30, 1856. They both served as privates in Capt. A. J. G. Wright's Company. Robert never made it to the battlefield because he died from brain fever on Aug. 9, 1856, while still in service in the Cowart House at Bayport. He may be buried in the Bayport Cemetery in an unmarked grave. His wife Bethany did not remarry. Their son Obadiah fought in the War of the Sates, serving under the 3rd FL infantry Company I along with his uncle Andrew Jackson Rewis. Both mustered into service in 1861. Obadiah was killed sometime while in service. Robert and Bethany had 12 children in the following order: (1) Obadiah, (2) Mary, (3) Georgana (Rewis) (Anderson) Williams, (4) Eliza Rewis Keen, (5) Lucretia (Rewis) (Miggs) Raulerson, (6) John, (7) Winifred Rewis Anderson, (8) Andrew Jackson Rewis, (9) Randall Daniel Rewis, (10) Irene Rewis Smith, (11) Robert Daniel Jr., (12) Sarah Rewis Hogan. The last two children were born in Columbia County, FL. [Information provided by Jeff Cannon in May 2005. See the Pasco County early residents page for information on other Rewises.]
