ROBERT DANIEL REWIS (1809-1856) moved from Georgia
to Columbia County, Florida.
His parents were John Rewis Senior and Mary Rewis. He was born in Tattnal,
Georgia. He married
Bethany Anderson on Jan. 1, 1829,
and they lived in Ware County, Georgia,
before moving to Columbia County, Florida,
about 1856. He and his first son Obadiah were mustered into service to fight in
the second Seminole War on June 30,
1856. They both served as privates in Capt. A. J. G. Wright's
Company. Robert never made it to the battlefield because he died from brain
fever on Aug. 9, 1856, while
still in service in the Cowart House at Bayport. He may be buried in the Bayport
Cemetery in an unmarked grave. His
wife Bethany did not remarry. Their son Obadiah fought in the War of the Sates,
serving under the 3rd FL infantry Company I along with his uncle Andrew Jackson
Rewis. Both mustered into service in 1861. Obadiah was killed sometime while in
service. Robert and Bethany had 12 children in the following order: (1)
Obadiah, (2) Mary, (3) Georgana (Rewis) (Anderson) Williams, (4) Eliza Rewis
Keen, (5) Lucretia (Rewis) (Miggs) Raulerson, (6) John, (7) Winifred Rewis
Anderson, (8) Andrew Jackson Rewis, (9) Randall Daniel Rewis, (10) Irene Rewis
Smith, (11) Robert Daniel Jr., (12) Sarah Rewis Hogan. The last two children
were born in Columbia County,
