Paul Staggs

Paul Staggs, 92, of Batesville died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, in a Batesville nursing home.

Born Feb. 3, 1911, in Cave City, he was the son of Franklin Andrew Staggs and Mary Etta Gray Staggs. He was a home building contractor and owned a building contracting business in Wichita, Kansas. He farmed and raised cattle in Independence County for over 30 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and the Southside United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Claudene Rudick Staggs; a stepson, Wesley Green of Bethesda; a daughter, Joan Swenson of Phoenix, Ariz.; two step-daughters, Angela Vallero of Missouri and Kathy Insell of Batesville; a brother, Allen Staggs of Batesville; three grandchildren, Carol Gibbs, Mark Staggs and David Swenson; nine step grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several step-great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Onie Hunter Staggs; a son, Paul Staggs Jr.; six brothers; two sisters; and an infant daughter, Betty Staggs.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Southside United Methodist Church with the Revs. Buddy Hamner and Jimmy Staggs officiating. Burial will be in Egner Cemetery under the direction of the Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Pallbearers will be Henry Staggs, James Staggs, Franklin Dickey, Kenneth Manual, Raymond Dale Staggs and Fred Dennison Sr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Walton and Dr. J.D. Allen.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the Southside United Methodist Church.
