Excerpt from McClellen Family Book from Kay (McNally) McConkey

Nora F. McClellen, the first child born to Nancy and William J. McClellen, was born at Thomas Hill, Missouri, on March 20,1869.

On April 10,1887, she was united in marriage to Joseph H. Waltermire at Reeder's Mill, Iowa, where her parents were then making their home..She was 18, and Joe was 22 at the time..

When her parents moved on west into Nebraska,
she and Joe moved also, and began building a sod house close to the home her parents had built on their homestead about 20 miles north of Gothenburtg..It was almost completed when the blizzard of 1888 began blowing in..They worked desparately to get it finished before the worst of the storm struck,,working all night to get it done..They did manage to do so,, and her parents and brothers and sisters moved in with them during the storm..Nora and Joe's home was at  the foot of the big hill, and thus was a little more protected from the bitter wind and cold...Most of the oldtimers talk of this blizzard as being the worst they ever remembered, but the McClellen family made it through safely, as sod houses were warm and good protection in both winter and summer..

On November 29,1889, a daughter, Alice, was born to them and on November 14, 1892, another daughter, Katie was born.

In 1893, Joe and Nora moved to Kansas, near Manhattan, A baby boy was born to them in  1895, or 1896, and Nora died at the time of his birth, and she is buried near Manhattan..Her brother, Luke, was with them at this time, In 1910, Luke and Earl, her brothers, went down to Kansas and put a stone at her grave..

Alice married Joseph Johnson, and they made their home at Billings, Montana..There were the parents of 5 children--4 boys and 1 girl..

Katie married Roy Post, and most of their married life was spent ranching near Arnold, Nebraska..They had no Children..Roy was very Musical, and their home was a happy place to visit as it was filled with music much of the time...He played the guitar, banjo, violin and several other instruments..

Roy passed away in  March 17,1960  and is buried in the Arnold Cemetery..Katie spent her last years in the rest home at Cozad and she died July2,1967  ..She, too is buried in the Arnold Cemetery..
