Anna McClellen---From McClellen Book

 

Anna McClellen was a born August 28, 1872. at Clifton Hill  Missouri, the third child of William and Nancy McClellen..In 1888, the family moved to a homestead 20 miles north of Gothenburg..

 

Anna took a homestead in Custer County, north of Gothenburg, in 1893, where she met Patrick Henry McNally who took a homestead in the same area at about the same time..Pat and Anna were married December 25, 1899, and lived on his homestead...A daughter was born in 1903, and passed away at birth..Richard Francis was born September 14, 1905..

 

In 1908, Pat took a kincaid in Garden County, 25 miles northeast of Lewellen..the kincaid Act allowed one person 640 acres, and as Pat had taken 160 acres in Custer County, he could only take 480 acres..In the spring of 1909,Pat ,Anna and Richard moved to Lewellen, shipping the machinery and livestock by immigrant car...Pat had built a frame house and barn and put down a well and windmill...they had sold their land in Custer County, so that let them get started in good shape in the sandhills..

 

Lois May was born May 12,1909..They lived in the sandhills, milking cows and raising cattle until the spring of 1917...They sold out and bought a farm 7 miles north of Lewellen, as Pat had asthma so bad he couldn't stay in the hills any longer...At the farm north of lewellen, we had a phone, rural mail, and a gravel road and 2 miles to school.

 

Pat, passed away January 21, 1923, and Anna sold out the personal property and moved to Gothenburg, where Anna, Lois and Richard worked at various jobs.........

 

In the spring of 1926, Richard went back to Lewellen and on June 26, 1926 married Lucille Schirmer, a neighbor..The Schirmer family moved to Lewellen from Iowa in 1909..to this union was born 1 son and 4 daughters.......

 

Richard and Lucille moved on the farm north of Lewellen in Feburary of 1927...Anna and Lois moved back later in the summer and lived in a separate house on the McNally farm....Anna had a stoke in the fall of 1946 and passed away  that December....at her sons home..........

 

(Richard and Lucille lived in Lewellen all of there lives......and was married  64 years at the time of Lucille's death.) K.M.

 

Lois May married Joe Ballinger and moved to Turlock, Calif....(Lois and Joe both are buried there.) K.M.

 

Patrick and Anna and daughter are buried in New Hope Cemetery North of Gothenburg,Ne..K.M.

 

Richard and Lucille are buried in Ash Creek Cemetery north of Lewellen, Ne....Gate way was erected  in  1990 at Cemetery in Memory of Lucille....from her Husband Richard and Family...........K.M
